EarthCube – in their own words!

In December 2016, AZGS is sending a cohort to the Fall AGU (American Geophysical Union) meeting in San Francisco, largely to update the Earth science community on progress with the EarthCube initiative and to ferment interest in this important initiative among the other sciences. See below for the talks, workshops and exhibits involving AZGS staff.
Here is Earthcube in their own words.
“EarthCube will enable geoscientists to address the challenges of understanding and predicting a complex and evolving solid Earth, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and space environment systems. By fostering community-governed efforts to develop a common cyberinfrastructure for the purpose of collecting, accessing, analyzing, sharing and visualizing all forms of data and related resources, EarthCube is intended to democratize, and increase access to and use of, advanced technological and computational capabilities for geosciences research. EarthCube’s long term objective is enhanced knowledge and understanding of, and ability to predict, the Earth system.
EarthCube envisions a dynamic, community-driven cyberinfrastructure that supports standards for interoperability, infuses advanced technologies to improve and facilitate interdisciplinary research, and helps educate scientists in the emerging practices of digital scholarship, data and software stewardship, and open science.
EarthCube, which began in 2011, is a joint initiative between the National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Geosciences (GEO) and the Division of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (ACI). Achieving EarthCube objectives requires a long-term effort, which NSF anticipates supporting until at least 2022.”
